Now I will tell you about Brainstorming for search terms
Keywords usually give you
more resources (a broader search).you will know when
should you use keywords, subject headings, phrases, single words after you understood about this knowledge. Firstly you have started to formulate your research question, it
can be useful to brainstorm keywords that are synonymous with or related to the
major concepts of your topic, as well as narrower and broader terms. Than you try to create a hierarchy of concepts for your research the topic. It will give you more flexibility when searching different types of
databases, catalogs, etc.
Examples of
subject headings are:
Used as the
"official vocabulary" of the Libraries catalog as well as many other
library catalogs.
Used to
describe the content of documents in the Library at AIU as well as in catalogs
of other medical and health sciences libraries.
This
controlled vocabulary is used by American Psychological Association indexers to
describe the content of documents in the database. These subject headings
are sometimes called index terms or descriptors. The library has copies
of the printed volume and the thesaurus is also available online,
searchable from within the database.
However in Boolean Searching we will knew about the Boolean operators.Boolean operators is named for George Boole, 1815-1864, a mathematician. It is combining terms such as AND, OR, and NOT used in building a search statement or
in putting several sets together.
We will know when we see the example, like this
Overmore we should know another boolean because this lesson have Boolean Operator or Keywords.
For another example:
*By using an AND
between words you limit the search.
*By placing an OR
between words it expands the search. *When you use OR you
receive more information because the search engine is looking for two words
rather than just one word. The example of OR,AND and NOT: |
